Grey Breaks Indoor 400m Record!

Friday February 6, 2009 - Whitewater, WI: [RESULTS]
The fourth-ranked UW-Whitewater Warhawks won their own Warhawk Classic  Friday in the Kachel Fieldhouse. The Warhawks edged out conference rival UW-Oshkosh by one point in the team standings with a total of 165.5 points.
           
Isiah Gray led the Warhawks as he broke the UW-W indoor record in the 400 meter dash and won the event in a time of 49.10. The record, which had stood for nearly 20 years, was set by Anthony Talton back in 1990 when he ran the 400 in 49.35.
Gray’s time currently stands as the third fastest in D-III this season.

The Warhawks dominated the high jump as they claimed the top three places. Luke Buchholz won the event with a provisional qualifying mark of  6’8”. Kyle Lencho and Travis Morehouse both jumped 6’6” and tied for second place.  

Cory Lockridge was the Warhawks’ third first place finisher on the day as he won the long jump with a jump of 22’8”.
           
The Warhawks finished second in six other events. Marcus Smith provisionally qualified in the triple jump, 46’ 3 ¼”; Ben Stringer had a 54’8” toss in the weight throw, Luke Hibner had a throw of 50’ 6 ¾” in the shot put, Aron Kehoe provisionally qualified in the 1 mile run, 4:15.56, and Brakken Kraker ran the 800m run in 1:56.38. The 4x400m relay also finished second with a time of 3:21.68.
           
Other top finishers include: Ryan Jefferson, 3rd long jump, 22’¼”; Brian Gensrick, 4th 55m hurdles, 8.01; Tyler Eddy, 4th  high jump, 6’2”, and 4th in the long jump, 21’9”; and Darin Kuhnke, 4th pentathlon 2805 points.
           
UW-W travel to Allendale, Michigan this weekend to compete in the GVSU Big Meet at Division II Grand Valley State on Friday and Saturday.

Hytinen Breaks UW-Whitewater Discus Record

April 6, 2008 - Oshkosh, WI: [RESULTS] The UW-Whitewater Warhawks traveled to UW-Oshkosh this weekend as they competed in the 2008 UW-Oshkosh Invitational. UW-Oshkosh won the meet scoring 174.5 points. UW-Whitewater finished in 3rd with 143.5 points.

Leading the way for the Warhawks was Dan Hytinen who won the discus with a throw of 57.75m (189' 6"). The throw improved Hytinen's automatic qualifying mark by over 3 meters and breaks the UW-Whitewater team record in the discus, previously held by Warhawk All-American Pete Ringquist (57.74m/189' 5"). Hytinen also finished 6th in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.97m/160' 8".

Alek Konopacki was the other team champion for the Warhawks, winning the 800m in a time of 1:57.72. There were also a handful of runner-up finishes for the Warhawks. Aron Kehoe finished 2nd in the 1,500m run, clocking 4:08.50. Matt Grzelak finished 2nd in the 3,000m Steeplechase, crossing in 10:09.20. Ben Stringer took 2nd place in the Javelin with a throw of 48.51m/159' 2". Bruce Zalud rounded out the second place finishes with a jump of 6.94m/22' 9 1/4" in the long jump.

Other notable performance included: Kyle Ewing 5th, Long Jump (6.67m/21' 10 3/4", Luke Hibner 3rd, Shot Put (14.56m/47' 9 1/4"), Joe Schneider 4th, Shot Put (13.94m/45' 9"), Ben Stringer 3rd, Discus (45.05m/147' 10"), Shaun Davis 3rd, Hammer Throw (50.85m/166' 10"), Jon Schellin provisional qualifier in 110m Hurdles (14.83) and Joel Saucerman 3rd, Javelin (47.07m/154' 5").

The Warhawks will travel to Wheaton College, IL  for the Wheaton Invitational on April 11,12.

 

Hytinen DOING IT!

March 29, 2008 - St. Louis, MO: [RESULTS] The UW-Whitewater Warhawks kicked off the outdoor season by taking a partial throwing squad to St. Louis, MO to compete at the Washington University Invitational.

Dan Hytinen won the discus by throwing 54.26m/178'. His throw is an automatic qualifying mark by nearly two meters. Ben Stringer finished in 5th place with a toss of 45.11m/148'. Te Bates finished in 8th place with a mark of 40.54m/133'. Ryan Howell also finished in 18th place with a throw of 34.97m/114' 9".

 

Hawks 7th at 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships

March 15, 2008 - Ada, OH: [RESULTS] The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater finished 7th at the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, scoring 15 points.

Leading the way for the Warhawks was Jon Schellin who finished 2nd in the 55m Hurdles, breaking his own school record of 7.51 by clocking 7.49. Jonathan Gracia from the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth won the event clocking 7.46.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Brakken Kraker, Matt Kovnesky, Eric Keen, and Brian Butzler finished in 5th place running 10:06.88. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville team of Cameron Kline, Adam Buss, Tony Kilburg, and Tyler Sigl won the event crossing the finish line in 9:59.71.

Derek Stanley finished in 6th place in the long jump with a leap of 7.04m/23' 1 1/4". Beresford Brown from Moravian College won the event with a mark of 7.31m/23' 11 3/4".

 

Aron Kehoe competed in the 800m clocking 1:56.17. Kehoe finished 9th overall. Peter Kosgei from Hamilton College won the event in 1:51.97

Dan Hytinen also competed in the shot put. Hytinen's throw of 14.75m/48' 4 3/4" finished 12th overall. UW-La Crosse's Bobby Riley won the shot put throwing 16.94m/55' 7"

The Warhawks will begin their outdoor season on April 5th, when they travel to Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville to compete in the Cougar Classic.

 

Hawks Conquer Conference Foes

February 15, 2008 - Whitewater, WI: [RESULTS] The UW-Whitewater Warhawks hosted their second home meet in a row, the Warhawk Classic. The Hawks won the meet scoring 187 points.

The Warhawks had several top performances on the day. Jon Schellin finished first in the 55m Hurdles with a performance of 7.59 and also won the 200m clocking 22.77. Aron Kehoe won the 800m Run with a time of 1:55.31. Brian Butzler took the 3,000m Run by crossing the line in 8:49.41. Derek Stanley won the Long Jump with a mark of 6.92m. Dan Hytinen also improved his qualifying mark in the Shot Put by winning with a throw of 16.05m.

Several other top performances included: Kyle Ewing, (2nd, 55m Dash - 6.50 & 3rd, Long Jump - 6.64m), Nik Hannon, (3rd, 55m Dash - 6.53), Alek Konopacki, (5th, 55m Dash - 6.63), Jake Stadler, (5th, 200m Dash - 23.21), Brian Butzler, (3rd, Mile Run - 4:15.04), Eric Keen, (3rd - 800m Run - 1:56.27), Tyler Eddy, (3rd, High Jump - 1.83m & Long Jump - 6.55m), Bruce Zalud, (2nd, Long Jump - 6.92m), Shaun Davis, (3rd, Triple Jump - 13.93m), Luke Hibner, (2nd, Shot Put - 15.11m), Joe Schneider, (3rd - Shot Put - 14.49m), Dan Hytinen, (3rd, 35lb Weight Throw - 16.33m), Darin Kuhnke (2nd, Heptathlon - 4,248 points, Zach Campbell, (3rd, Heptathlon - 3,092 points), Nick Harr, (4th, Heptathlon - 3,083 points), and the 4x 400m Relay team of Jordan Schrubbe, Alek Konopacki, Brakken Kraker, and Aron Kehoe (3:23.22).

The Warhawks will travel to UW-Madison next weekend to compete in the Wisconsin Open on February 23.
